Early Childhood Education
Welcome to the Pasadena School District Early Childhood Education Programs. We offer high-quality child development programs by providing a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, creative, linguistic, and cognitive development of each child through developmentally and culturally appropriate practices while responding to the needs of the child and his or her Parent.

The Child Development Department of the Pasadena Unified School District serves children ages 3 through 11 in 20 different school locations across the District.  Our program offers Full Day Preschool, Part Day Preschool and Before and After School Care.

Full Day Preschool and Before and After School Care Program is offered at 4 Children's Centers which are located in an educational setting for children ages 3 through 11 whose parents are working, attending school, job training, seeking employment, or incapacitated. Hours of care are determined based on family need. Families must be low income and must meet State guidelines for eligibility.

Children's Center Locations: Jefferson Children's Center, Longfellow Children's Center, Washington Children's Center and Willard Children's Center.

The State Pre-School Program is a Part Day program that operates for 3 hours, Monday-Friday. Program emphasizes on school readiness by creating learning opportunities for students in language arts, mathematics, science, and physical and social-emotional development. Emphasis is placed on pre-literacy and pre-mathematical skills and concepts.

LAUP Pre-school
LAUP is a non-profit organization created to provide accessible and affordable preschool for all four-year-old children in Los Angeles County. Services are offered to families with children needing support in the area of autism. The LAUP program offers a 3 hour program that is offered Monday –Friday. Two sessions are offered to meet the needs of the families. Operating hours are 7:15am – 10:45am and 11:45am to 2:15pm. The LAUP program is in session 175 days a year following traditional school schedules. Program is offered at Burbank Early Chilhood Education Center, 2046 N. Allen Ave. Altadena, CA 91001

The LAUP program serves 40 children (20 in each session) and is unique in that it is a blended inclusion site that enables staff to meet the needs of eight children with autism, as well as typically developing children. The program continues to provide quality preschool services as we traditionally know it, and also address the core components of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder as a key method to early detection. With specially trained teachers, the class adresses areas of impaired social interaction, communication and restricted or repetitive behavior, which are all critical strategies in working with children with disabilities. We emphasize school readiness by creating learning opportunities for students in language arts, mathematics, science, and physical and social-emotional development. Emphasis is placed on pre-literacy and pre-mathematical skills and concepts.
